I'm just saying that I think that is the best way to experience this awesome series. Ultimately, the choice is yours and you can completely omit the first games if you wish to do so. I mean, if you wish to start with Black Mesa and then DLCs, you are more than welcome to do so but keep in mind that then the older games may not look as graphically impressive if you played the originals first. Even though Black Mesa is a remake of the first Half Life game, it was released recently and it means that it looks as good as many games of today's era, while the OG series has been released loong time ago and it shows, especially in the first games. You may be wondering, why should you play through the entire HL series and then the remake and the answer is easy. These projects will take some time to finish development but you may want to keep an eye on them as they most likely will be as good as Black Mesa if not better.Ĭoming back to the currently available games I recommend you start playing Half Life (NOT Half-Life: Source), then Blue Shift, Opposing Force + Half Life 2 (plus all 2 episodes) and then Black Mesa. Operation: Black Mesa (Opposing Force remake) There are, however, active projects that plan on recreating these with assets from Black Mesa:ġ. Hope you're having a great time here.Īs for the games, I personally recommend playing the original games first, not because history and other jazz but rather because after finishing OG Half Life you can appreciate more the additions that Black Mesa introduces.Īlso, Black Mesa DOES NOT include DLCs (Opposing Force and Blue Shift).
