Despite all these hassles, Captain Gordon was able to ensure we made it to the highlight dive sights of the trip, and kept rearranging other diving days on the fly around them. Due to issues with covid-19 and additional weather-related port closures, the company really had to work to ensure this trip could happen on schedule, with arrangements changing up until the day of departure. I had a great liveaboard trip in the Sea of Cortez, 8 nights. I wish we had done a Socorro trip instead. Those dives can easily be done from land based operations near La Paz. While a couple of the dives in Cabo Pulmo were nice, the most memorable dives were with the sea lions in Isla Espiritu Santo. In the end it didn’t matter because after an hour in the skiff the captain couldn’t find the buoy / dive site! Conclusion My overall impression is that Nautilus got a good deal on this boat and is trying to come up with a trip that justifies the purchase. We had to borrow a light for the dive master. We had to go borrow lights from guests that were not participating in the dive. I said “That’s stupid, 1 person 1 light” but they just stood there. My wife and I had torches but the dive master and another guest did not. The Captain, First Mate and Dive Master all agreed that we would go on the dive with only 2 lights for the group of 4 people. The captain offered a night dive near Cabo Pulmo to make up for the poor scheduling earlier in the day.We rode around for an hour trying to find our night dive location before having to abandon the dive and return to the ship. One group didn’t leave for their first dive until after lunch. When diving in Cabo Pulmo National Park the schedule was completely chaotic due to poor scheduling with the 3rd party dive operators. When the captain talked about boat movements we no idea what he was talking about because there was no map of the area. There is plenty of steel wire run in the forward railing. The small area for hangers is occupied by wetsuits. No clothes pins provided to hang wet clothing outside. The rooms are so large but have very little storage. We started the diving on the first day very late and only did 2 dives. How can you do night dives without a set of rental/spare torches? The dive-master's personal torch had failed so he had to borrow from the guests. The boat didn’t have any torches to rent or loan for the customers.1 dive master for a group of 11 divers.Time that the dive master could have jumped into the water and checked the current or something else more useful. Having the dive master lift each and every persons equipment onto their back takes time. The large skiff really isn’t set up well for diving. ![]()
